Create a Life That Feels as Good on the Inside as It Looks on the Outside
A message from Arran

Many people reach a point where they realise that something in their life could be better.
Many people reach a point where they realise that something in their life could be better.
It might be their relationship.
Their career or business.
Their sense of purpose or direction.
On the outside, things may appear to be going well — but internally there can still be a feeling that something is missing.
If that resonates with you, coaching can help you understand why and create the changes you’re looking for.
My coaching is based around understanding the core human needs that drive behaviour, motivation and decision-making.
The first step is discovering which of these needs influence you the most.
Many of the people who come to coaching are thoughtful, capable individuals who are committed to improving their lives.
They may have already tried reading books, attending workshops, or even working with other coaches.
Sometimes these approaches help for a while, but the changes don’t always last.
That’s often because most personal development focuses on what you should do, rather than helping you understand why you do what you do.
When you understand the deeper motivations behind your behaviour, real and lasting change becomes possible.
What are the Six Human Needs?
Every human being is influenced by six core psychological needs.
These needs shape our behaviour, our relationships, our decisions and the goals we pursue.
Certainty
To feel safe, secure and comfortable.
To feel certain we can avoid pain and attain pleasure.
Certainty can also lead to decision paralysis for fear of the next move, it can also lead to habits and rituals that do not serve us.
Variety
To experience an element of challenge or surprise that will exercise our physical and emotional range.
The need for variety can lead us to chase new things all the time, that feeling restlessness or dissatisfaction with our lives.
Significance
To feel needed, wanted or worthy. To feel we are special and achieve success in something important.
The need for significance can also lead us to chase shallow wins and outward signs of success rather than meaningful, enriching growth.
Love/Connection
Everyone needs connection with other humans, but really want to be loved. In infancy, if we are not loved and cared for – we die. This hard wired in all of us.
Love can feel scary so many people chase connection at any costs without fully committing, this fails to serve those around you, your clients, your friends, your colleague… and fails to serve you.
Growth
To constantly develop intellectually, emotionally & spiritually. If we are not growing – we are dying. Growth is a spiritual need.
The need for growth in your life can be a positive experience but constantly chasing something new can mean we lose our roots and our beginnings, loosing our connection with customers, clients and team.
Contribution
To go beyond our own needs and contribute to others. Develop a sense of service in helping, giving to, and supporting, others.
The need for contribution can also be people pleasing and lead to neglecting yourself and your needs.
Over contribution can lead to watering down your offers and losing your sense of self.
When these needs are met in healthy and balanced ways, life tends to feel fulfilling and aligned.
Each of us prioritises these needs differently, and this creates the patterns we see in our lives.
When they are not, people can feel stuck, dissatisfied or uncertain about the direction of their lives.
Understanding your dominant needs can provide powerful insight into the choices you make and the patterns you experience.
Discover Your Dominant Human Needs
The easiest way to begin exploring this is through the Human Needs Quiz.
The quiz will help you identify which needs are most influential in your life right now.
With that understanding, you can begin to see why certain behaviours, challenges or patterns may be appearing in your life.
It’s a simple but powerful first step towards meaningful change.
Coaching is a collaborative process, and it works best for people who are open to reflection, learning and change.
